Music
Music at Northbrook is led by Miss Gwynne.
At Northbrook Primary Academy, we provide a high-quality music education that provides the foundations for expressive arts and design. We aim to stimulate a child’s curiosity to experiment with a range of instrument and to work together to create pieces of music. We aim to inspire children to deepen the understanding of musical skills and concepts. We strive to support our pupils to develop a love of music as well as their talent as musicians. Through this enriched curriculum, we nurture and celebrate the accessibility of music for all. We embrace the unity music brings, as pupils experience a variety of music styles and explore, listen, appraise and perform.
Music is taught each week, following the ‘Charanga’ scheme of learning. We use the Charanga scheme of work to both structure and inform our planning. This scheme uses a repetition-based approach, allowing constant retrieval and mastery as musical skills are re-visited and established. All musical learning in this scheme is built around the Interrelated Dimensions of Music: pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and notation. These dimensions are at the centre of all the learning.
Music has many cross curricular links, including History, Geography, PSHE, and also through British Values.
